Security

Data encryption

External data transfers are via encrypted HTTPS TLS Connections, typically using: TLS 1.2, AES with 256 bit encryption (High); ECDH with 256 bit exchange Key - RSA 2048 bits Signature algorithm - SHA384withRSA.

All data transfer across Microsoft Azure infrastructure is encrypted in line with Microsoft’s security policies and implementations. Please see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/security/fundamentals/encryption-overview  for reference.

Data stored in Microsoft Azure SQL databases is secured in motion by TLS based encryption and at rest by Transparent Data Encryption. For further details please see  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/sql-database/sql-database-security-overview

All data written to Azure Storage is automatically encrypted using Storage Service Encryption (SSE). Detailed information is available at https://docs.microsoft.com/enus/azure/storage/common/storage-security-guide
Countries of data storage

The Planet eStream Cloud Platform implementation is hosted on Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, primarily located in the North Europe (Ireland) regional datacentre, with geo-replication to the West Europe (Netherlands) regional datacentre as per Microsoft standard practice.

Data storage method

The Planet eStream cloud platform is designed to enhance data security by ensuring separation of each customer’s media content and other file storage, metadata and individual site configuration data. Each customer has their own web site instance which allows custom configuration as necessary and each customer has their own individual Microsoft Azure SQL database, hosted under Microsoft’s Azure SQL Database service, which is not accessible to, or referenced by, other eStream customer instances.

Planet eStream media items such as video content, images and documents are stored in a geo-replicated Microsoft Azure Blob storage environment.

Data retention policy

The Customer’s data and media is retained intact for as long as the Planet eStream Cloud Service contract provision is active.

Planet eStream does not manage the customer’s data as part of its normal service provision.

Addition and deletion of the Customer’s media content and associated data is managed by the customer’s authorised users and Administrators.

If the contract is terminated, the Customer’s data will be retained on the hosted platform for a period of 60 days.

Incident management program, policy, and testing

Extensive Protective Monitoring implementations are deployed in the Planet eStream cloud hosted environment to detect a wide range of potential operational or security related issues. Planet eStream technical team members and development staff are automatically alerted via email and SMS push notifications. All non-standard operation reports or indications of unusual activity are investigated on a high priority basis within 1 working hour. Mitigating actions are taken immediately as required and any Data Protection implications will be reported in line with GDPR and other Data Protection legislation obligations.

Disaster recovery and business continuity plan and testing

The Planet eStream cloud service provision is hosted on the highly secure and resilient Microsoft Azure hosting platform.  The deployment has security and data protection features at its core, including firewalling, antivirus and malware protection, data encryption, data replication and backup implementations.

Planet eStream conducts its business with regard to the main principles pertaining to Operational Security which we classify as:

  • Identifying sensitive data that we hold or process
  • Identifying possible threats to the security of this information.
  • Analysing security holes and other vulnerabilities.
  • Appraising the level of risk associated with each vulnerability detected.
  • Putting appropriate countermeasures in place.
This culture of constant vigilance is designed to minimise the possibility of service disruption as the result of external factors.
Security Standard Certificates

Planet Enterprises Ltd. is UK NCSC Cyber Essentials certified.

The Microsoft Azure hosting environment meets a broad set of international and industry specific compliance standards, such as ISO 27001, HIPAA, FedRAMP, SOC 1 and SOC 2, as well as country-specific standards, including Australia IRAP, UK G-Cloud and Singapore MTCS. Rigorous third-party audits, such as those done by the British Standards Institute, verify Azure’s adherence to the strict security controls these standards mandate.

General compliance information resources are online at: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/overview/trusted-cloud/  and under their Trust Centre resources at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/TrustCenter/Compliance/default.aspx  and https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/compliance/regulatory/offering-home
