Any way for students to make "in browser" edits to a document?

I am planning on having students complete a document for an assignment.  I would prefer that they download the file provided and then edit it on the computer before submitting it to me (rather than having them print and scan it in).  Is there a function in the program for students to write over the document or do they have to download a 3rd party app and do it that way?

Hi Jason,

If you want to have the students download a file, modify it, and then submit it back to you with their saved changes, they will need to use whatever software on their computers to make the edits before re-uploading to Canvas.  For example you could make a MS Word file available for them to download from the directions of an assignment.  After modifying the document, they could save their changes and then electronically drop the document off in the assignment.  Were you thinking of something like that?

I was hoping to make it a little more streamlined so that they didn't have to download, edit, save, and upload but, instead, have it all done at once.  I actually just found out that there is an external tool called Kami that essentially does that.  Students open in through the Canvas program, and it immediately allows them make annotations and they can the submit it back to me when they are done.
