Assigning homework to only some specific subgroups in a people group set

I create several different People Group Sets of different types. Within the GroupSets I created subgroups.

How do I assign a homework (assignment) to ONLY some of the subgroups within a Group Set? The system does not appear to allow me to do this.

Essentially, when creating or editing the assignment, you select the Group assignment checkbox, then choose the group set in the dialog box, then choose the group within the set.
