Many people use their student information system (SIS) for this report.

If you want to get it out of Canvas, then you can use the provisioning report, but you will need to join the CSV files together as each CSV contains only a portion of the data you want. You could also bring in the User Course Access Log report to get their last activity.

Some people try to use Excel to merge all that data together into a single report. Here's a document I wrote for a similar task: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-4629-how-to-list-teachers-who-have-publishedunpublished-cou...

If you have Python installed somewhere, the Q - Run SQL directly on CSV of TSV files is a handy utility that lets you combine the data and get the fields you need without having to load them into a database. I have an example somewhere here in the Community but cannot find it right now.

If no one has had this problem, then how are people running this report. What am I missing here? I have tried the Provisioning report in a variety of ways and a series of other reports but I can't seem to get one report that shows not only the course name, the status of active, teacher's name associated to the course and as a bonus, the last time it was accessed. This report is needed for not only the courses that is being imported from our SIS but also the courses that staff who use Canvas has created on their own....

Good Morning,

I may need to simplify this a bit.

I was asked to find the courses that we have in Canvas that have been actively used since let’s say February 2020. We certainly have “active” courses in Canvas because Canvas is pulling the active courses in our SIS system each day but that does not indicate that they are actively being used by teacher/student. It is our feeling that teachers are NOT using Canvas to the level that we thought they were. I need to identify which courses have had activity since February 2020 or any date in the past.

Moreover, we know that some teachers have created their own courses within Canvas that are not in our SIS so I need to know which ones had activity during this same time frame as well. How do I create these reports easily show this activity?

In the past, I believe our Canvas Implementation representative(s) have been able to pull this data for us since this request seems to be more complex than it really should be. I have not spoken to those reps in quite a while, can you share with me the name and email address of who is our current account manager for Area Cooperative Educational Services in North Haven, CT?

Thank you,

Bob
