Automatic grade for missing assignments not working every time

I set up my grade book so that all missing assignments would receive 50%. It worked on some assignments, but on others it doesn't even mark it as missing when it's past the due date.

I double checked that I assigned due dates and that the automatic missing grade was checked, but it's still not working.

What am I doing wrong?
