Calendar

Jump to solution

My district is soon to roll out Canvas for K - 12. Although it is exciting, it is also a time of many questions. My administrator wants everyone to know how to use the calendar first in order for parents to be able to view when assignments are due. I have been working on the calendar in the test site and I have a couple questions.

I read the instructions on how "to add a personal event" to the calendar. I added a personal event and it showed on the calendar along with assignments. Question: by personal does it mean, "hairdresser appt. 4:00" ? and if added as personal it wouldn't show on student view?

Also, what is the purpose of the small calendar? just to give a monthly visual? I notice some days are grayed and just can't find how to work with it or if it is just for a visual?

All help is appreciated

A "newbie"

Renee

Your assessment of what the personal calendar is spot on. You can add a personal event and that item will show with the other course calendars you have displayed in your calendar view. Your personal items will not show up for students, those will only be visible to you, just as students' personal calendars will only be visible to them.

The small calendar in the upper right hand corner works great as a viewable reference but it can also be used with the drag and drop feature in the calendar. For example, if you have an assignment due on October 30 and you decide you'd actually like to move it to be due November 6 you can drag that assignment from the large view of the calendar into the small calendar on the date you'd like it changed to.

Here is a great video resource you can send over to your teachers as they are learning more about the calendar.

Hi rbrawner@eastchambers.net,

Welcome to the Canvas Community. I think Deactivated user covered most of what you asked, but I thought I would also point to this lesson How do I use the Calendar? I think the smallerdaythat your noting that some days are gray in calendar is just to help you distinguish day from and shows in a pattern as seen here:

I hope this helps.
