Can I retrieve the contents of an assignment that was turned in after the assignment was closed off?

I was working on a text assignment using the text box option and the due date had gone over but I was not immediately locked out of the assignment, I finished the assignment and when I went to turn it in, I was blocked access. I did not save/copy the text beforehand so I am scared that it's lost. Is there any way I can retrieve it?
