Can I upload a csv, xls, or docx file as a quiz/question bank?

Moving quickly online from face-to-face teaching, I am trying to get a midterm exam ready for students. I'm not thrilled at the prospect of having to enter each question manually, so I'm looking for an option to upload the questions at once using a csv, xls or doc/docx file as a question bank.

I'm not sure if your school has purchased the Respondus Exam Authoring Tool, but it's a piece of software that allows for batch uploading of quiz questions into a Canvas course.  I've written a detailed blog entry with all the details: Batch Uploading Quiz Questions with Respondus‌.  I hope this will help, Constance.

As Chris suggested, Respondus is going to be the easiest way for you to go. But in case you do not have access to Respondus, the closest thing I was able to find was a tool through Kansas State to import a quiz into Canvas from a CSV file.

Here's the tool: Build a Scantron Quiz. Actually, that's a misnomer because what you're really doing is structuring a CSV file in order for a script to covert it to a QTI file which you can then import into Canvas. But given that you have to structure the CSV file a specific way (and only supports multiple choice/response), you might as well put the questions into Canvas question bank anyway.

Hope you can get a Respondus license<

Thank you, Sharmaine Regisford. Back when my institution used Blackboard, we also had Respondus, but I haven't heard mention of it beyond the Lockdown Browser for administering exams. I'll check into it for future use, maybe. I have already resigned myself to manually entering the questions for this midterm.
