Can't Add Two Observers

"People" won't let me add two observers.  When I try, it thinks two of the students are already those observers.  The system is not discriminating between slightly similar email addresses.  How to fix this?  Thanks!

Hi ~ I wonder if you could reach out to Canvas Support to ask for clarity on why this is happening. The different email addresses should not link to the same user. If you hear back, it would be great to learn what they suggest!
