Cannot email future students

I'm restricted from emailing block 2 students; the class starts in 3 weeks. Does that capability begin at a certain point before a course begins?

First, and most importantly - Canvas does not have email. Canvas does have a messaging system called Inbox, and it is actually course-based, meaning that it is used to send messages to the members of a course. Because of this, if a course is unpublished or if enrollments are not yet active, then you cannot send an inbox message.

Hello  @gavin_a_coates ‌.  Yes, it is dependent on two things.  First, the start date (normally linked to a term start date) must have hit and the course has to be published.  Obviously, you have control of the published/unpublished status and it is up to your institution if they allow you to alter the start and end dates for the course.  If they do, you can go into the "Settings" menu on the left side course menu and then near the middle is a the start and end dates.  If they are not greyed out then you should be able to change them to set it to now so you can email your future students.
