Coming Up-Side Bar

Jump to solution

I am trying to see if I can remove the "coming up" section in the side bar. Based upon my searching in Canvas Guides I am thinking I cannot remove this option. Any suggestions?

Hi  @bludwig ‌,

While I wouldn't recommend this for students, since they could easily miss what they need to do in the near future, I could see why an instructor may want to hide it. As far as I know, there's no way to disable this list in Canvas, but I wrote myself a userscript awhile back to hide items from courses I don't actually teach in my To-Do list and quickly adapted it to just delete the coming up section from the page for you

You'll need a User Script manager extension like GreaseMonkey or TamperMonkey.

Hope this helps!

Downloadable version.

// ==UserScript==
// @name         Delete Coming Up
// @namespace    http://tampermonkey.net/
// @version      1.0
// @description  Hides Coming Up on Canvas
// @author       Alex Wolfe
// @require      http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.0/jquery.min.js
// @require      https://gist.github.com/raw/2625891/waitForKeyElements.js
// @include      https://*.instructure.com/*
// @grant        none
// ==/UserScript==

//Waits for coming_up list to load.
waitForKeyElements ('div.events_list.coming_up', deleteComingUp);

function deleteComingUp (jNode) {
            jNode.remove ();
}

Thank you very much for sharing this script.

I was wanting to disable this because several of my students were getting confused because they were seeing the coming up list and thinking it was their to do list. The Coming Up list was still displaying activities for the week, even though students had already completed the assignment.
