Completed Assignments Crossed Off in the Calendar

Is it possible for students to cross out assignments from the calendar once they have completed them?  If not how to I offer a suggestion for this to be considered as a possible option or to be linked to the "Mark as Completed" button in the assignment?

Hi landonb@byui.edu!  If a student completes an assignment, such as a file submission or a quiz, the item will appear crossed out on the calendar automatically.  However, looking in to this a bit, there isn't currently a way for someone to manually mark something off.   There are several ideas open that relate to this functionality or related functionality.  I will link to a couple below you might consider voting up if still open.

It seems as thought the first may fit what you describe, would you agree? If not then a new idea may be needed.  The documents below describe the feature idea process.

How does the feature idea process work in the Canvas Community?

I hope this helps and best wishes!

Eric,

Thank you for the reply.  I have a student that says when she completes it the calendar does not show it crossed out.  I will double check if she is marking it as completed.

Let me know what you find out!  I would be interested to see why the assignment may not be crossed out.

Eric,

I will, she says she has been watching but thinks maybe it takes a day to update and will let me know.

Thanks

Hi Eric,

I am new to Canvas support at Edmonds Community College. I am hoping you might know the answer to a student's question. Will the Canvas calendar only automatically cross out Canvas assignments? It seems to not work with linked publisher material (Learn Smart by McGraw Hill for example). When linking McGraw Hill to Canvas, the assignments are showing up on Canvas, but are not automatically being crossed out when completed. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi hryan@email.edcc.edu, I'm glad that  landonb@byui.edu was able to respond.  I thought I would mention that the idea to manually mark assignments as completed has come up a number of times over the past couple of years (i.e. https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/12981?sr=search&searchId=cf048caa-9cc7-4282-9f04-a037abb57386&...https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/10566?sr=search&searchId=d8097bb7-46dd-4099-9333-413fff0281da&... ,  https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/9494?sr=search&searchId=d8097bb7-46dd-4099-9333-413fff0281da&s...https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/6576" modifiedtitle="true" title="Calendar Event/Assignment Ma...).  These ideas have been archived so you may need to request access to see them.  I believe this would be good functionality, and hopefully would be an option for linked material as well.  Generally these ideas have not garnered a lot of votes but perhaps another idea will be proposed that gets more traction.

Hope the term goes well and welcome to Canvas.  We have loved the LMS and hope you all at Edmonds CC have a similar experience!

We use Maple TA and my students can mark the assignment complete by checking the complete button but it still does not mark it off of the calendar.
