How do I disable chat so my students do not text each other?

I know this is an old thread, but hiding it does not disable it.  Students have figured out the link to the chat and are able to access it, but even worse now because teachers think it is disabled and students are using it to post stuff that is inappropriate without teachers knowing.  Is there a way to turn it completely off so chat is not accessible and not just hid.

@TroyBradshaw I do not know the ramifications of this and it would be a nuclear option but Chat is an external tool so an admin can go in and remove Chat as one of the apps in Canvas.  This would be if you want to disable it for the entire institution but might be an option if you really want no one using it.
