Disconnect while taking a quiz - new attempt replaces first?

Hi, now that I'm placing midterms online as a Canvas quiz, I need to prepare for the inevitable case where a student is disconnected while taking the quiz. If I allow that student a multiple attempt, it seems it will replace their work from the first attempt? I think I need a copy of the quiz to open to students in this situation, and have them start whereever they left off in the first attempt. Is there a different way to plan for this?
