Does mute affect "what if Grades"?

Jump to solution

I have a student who says that she checked her grade using the "what if" feature and had earned enough points to get the desired final grade.

There were some muted assignments at the time.  She did not meet her anticipated performance and is confused - and frustrated.

So, my question:  does "what if" account for muted assignments ?

Hi Ashley!

I just tested this, and yes, they can still do "what if" grades even when muted.

Thank you for the quick test!

An important follow up, students must enter "what if" grades for all graded assignments to get an accurate idea of how a score will affect their overall grade.  In the student view, leaving any "- "in the grade book excludes the assignment/quiz from the final grade calculation, and may give students an inaccurate estimate of their required performance to achieve a specific grade outcome.

True, but this goes for muted or un-muted. There is a tiny caveat at the top right that says "This is NOT your actual score"!

And we all know how well students read things
