Embedding Facebook Videos

Jump to solution

I did not find a discussion on this topic, and I am a bit surprised.  I have a faculty member that is trying to embed Facebook videos into a Canvas page.   I will post the embed code given by Facebook and it is probably the script that is blowing up.   Can you embed?  I did not see an LTI tool available.

<div id="fb-root"></div><script>(function(d, s, id) {  var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];  if (d.getElementById(id)) return;  js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;  js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3";  fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));</script><div class="fb-video" data-allowfullscreen="1" data-href="https://community.canvaslms.com/thesherlocksdrummer/videos/vb.1008822719/10203530471034923/?type=3"><div class="fb-xfbml-parse-ignore"><blockquote cite="https://www.facebook.com/thesherlocksdrummer/videos/10203530471034923/"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/thesherlocksdrummer/videos/10203530471034923/"></a><p>A Tour of the British Isles in Accents. Brilliant! x</p>Posted by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/thesherlocksdrummer">Brandon Crook</a> on Friday, July 18, 2014</blockquote></div></div>

Thanks all

dwillmore@stchas.edu, after taking a quick look at the embed code you've provided, I can see that several of the attributes and elements in the code are not supported by the Canvas Rich Content Editor (RCE). Please refer to this document for the current list of supported tags and attributes: Canvas HTML Whitelist  I also had a look at Facebook's code configurator and I can see that the code generated will not be supported in the Canvas RCE.

Could the faculty member provide links to the videos instead?

Invaluable document and utility.  Thank you Stefanie.

dwillmore@stchas.edu, would the IFRAME-only embed code available from a Facebook video's Options > Embed work for your needs?  That is just a single IFRAME tag with a few attributes, including a width and height value which you can edit. I was able to paste this into a Canvas page using HTML Editor; it was saved successfully, and the video could be played back.
