Canvas Gradebook - Not User Friendly & Wastes Time

The ability for teachers to type M for missing needs to be an added feature. I made this video: <https://youtu.be/iWfuXILEsNA> to illustrate how slow the process of marking Missing is. In 2018, the Canvas forums said M for missing will be confusing for some people, so they will not implement it. A little confusion, for a few, is a small setback compared to the amount of time that will be saved for so many teachers if the Canvas developers add the M for missing feature.

If you don't want it to affect everyone, please put it in Settings>Feature Options, then teachers can choose to use the M for missing feature.

Please seriously consider this.

Also, anyone else having the problem that even if you use the tedious process to mark the assignment missing, it isn't adding it to the student's total count of missing assignment....so it looks like they aren't missing anything?

Perhaps go into the Settings in the gradebook, and see what it says to do for missing assignments?

Thanks for the recommendation, unfortunately, I can't figure out a way to do it like that. I don't think it works, but if it is a new feature, that would be great. If you could tell me the steps to take to do this successfully, I would very much appreciate it!!

I used Schoolloop previously, and we could make our own letters to mean anything we wanted. I always used M for missing assignments, and students and parents were not confused.

But that isn't even the concern. I want to write M in the gradebook, and have it automatically changed to Missing. Just like I can write "Ex" in the gradebook, and it highlights the assignment as Excused.
