How Do I Assign Roles?

New to Canvas, and am account admin. I have imported Users from our SIS to Canvas, but I need to assign them roles. How do I do that? Something isn't turned on, but I have admin access to do it.

When you import people into Canvas, everyone (no matter if they are an instructor or a student at your school) are first consider a "user". It's when those individuals are assigned to a course that the actual role is determined. In this way, you could have someone be enrolled as a "Teacher" in one course ... and at the same time, this same person is taking a course as a "Student" at the same school. You should be able to format your SIS files so that when names are imported, people have the proper roles as they are enrolled in courses. Here are some Guides for you to look at:
