How do I copy a discussion to a series of groups in another course?

Is there any way to copy a discussion from one course (our test course) to a series of groups in the actual course?

We have a large set of groups (1000 student course, 20 or so lab groups). Copying a series of discussions to these 20 groups individually seems tedious, even if there was an obvious mechanism.

Edit in follow-up: it seems we can copy the discussion to a module in the actual course, and then assign it to groups afterwards. If anyone has a better approach ...

I am sorry to see that your question hasn't had a response since you first posted it several months ago.  In reading through your question, I noticed that you edited your original question to add a solution that you have found.  To be honest, I was going to mention something very similar.  You cannot copy a discussion topic in one course to a "Group" in another course...as far as I know.  But, as you've correctly noted, you can go to each discussion topic and assign that topic to whatever Group you have set up in that course.  Thanks!  Take care...be well.
