How to delete or edit a course navigation link

I used Redirect to add some apps, but I forgot to change the name for one of them and now I have a course navigation link title "Redirect Tool" I know I can hide it from students, but it bugs me to see it there. Is there any way to delete a link, or to edit one once it's been added?

Hi. I had a similar issue. I went back into the app and found at top the view app configurations button that led me to the menu item list and then I could edit or delete the labels I created. Somehow, it all worked out. Bonnie.

Did you find a solution to this? I am unable to delete the link created using Redirect. When I go into App Configuration, the only option I see is for Placement. No Delete function next to the link. See screenshot below:

I have the same issue: I only see "Placements", no option to configure or delete the redirect.

Apparently, it is a permission problem.

Hello there, @mshanker and @mmforbes ...

I don't think this is a permissions issue.  Please take a look at the screen shots in this Guide: How do I use the Canvas App Center in a course? - Instructure Community.  Specifically, look at the information under the headings of "View Account-Level Apps" and "Manage Course-Level Apps".  I think that if you only see the "i" icon to the right of an installed app in your list, that means that you cannot delete or uninstall it at the course level.  Also, as stated in this Guide, "Apps that have been configured by your Canvas admin at the account level display a Lock icon [1]"  This is because the LTI external app was most likely installed and configured at your school's Canvas account level...by your school's local Canvas administrator or someone from your school's Online Learning/eLearning department.  If it was deleted/uninstalled at the account level, it would not only be removed from your course...but lots of other courses, too.  In contrast, if you see the cog wheel/gear icon to the right of an installed app in your installed app list, this means that it was probably installed at the course level, and you can edit, configure, and delete the app from your course.

@Chris_Hofer Thanks for the info.  To be clear, I do see the cog wheel/gear icon (not the lock icon) as shown in the example you link, but the options to Edit and Delete are not there.  Only "Placements".  Our admins seem to concur that I do not have permission to edit or delete these redirect application links and that I must submit a ticket to have them do this.

Is there a reasonable reason why the instructor should not have permission to edit or delete links that they have created?

That's interesting.  Thank you for the additional information.  As a Canvas admin, I took a look at our account "Permissions" page.  There is a single permission called "LTI - add / edit / delete", and here is the info on it...

WHAT IT DOES

Course Settings

Allows user to manually add and delete an app in Course Settings.

External Apps (Course Settings)

Allows user to edit configurations for manually added external apps.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

External Apps (Course Settings)

If this permission is disabled, users can still install approved apps through the Canvas App Center (if enabled for your institution).

Additionally, if this permission is disabled, users cannot delete manually added external apps.

I don't know if that last sentence may be why you are not seeing the ability to delete LTI apps that you've installed/configured at the course level.  It might be worth having a chat with your school's Canvas admin about that, though.  Hope this helps a bit.

Thank you for the additional information. I suspect that is why we can't delete the links created via the app. Here is what our administrator responded  "To preserve fundamental course materials including Flashbooks, Publisher integrations, etc., the determination was made to not give faculty the ability to permanently delete links from their courses."
