How to upload a new Syllabus ( PDF)

I can't seem to be able to upload ( as an attachment) a new course Syllabus as a PDF.  I just don't see the Attachment tab when I select Syllabus.  

Linda moved my old one over but I don't want to use that this term. I have a new one to upload.  Should be simple...

Hi  @dennymoers  Welcome to the Canvas Community!

You have several options for loading and displaying syllabi in Canvas, but I will share the most straight-forward.............

• How do I use the Syllabus as an instructor? 
• How do I edit the Syllabus description in a course? 

My preference is to simply use the Rich Content Editor (RCE) to build my syllabi for my courses, but that's just me.  But if you are interested, I would recommend checking out the Rich Content Editor chapter of the Canvas Instructor Guide.

Your guide was not helpful at all. It is ridiculous that I have my syllabus based on our college course template as a word/pdf document and i can't simply attach it to the syllabus area as a file. This is the process we used in blackboard. All this stupid editor is useless. Is there anyone in canvas system who can help us make things simple rather then giving guides that are totally useless.

Kelley is now retired, and he no longer is a frequent poster here in the Canvas Community website, so I will try my best to help answer your question.  The documentation he provided is actually "spot-on".  But, I'll try to go into a bit more detail for you.

First, Kelley is correct that you'll want to use this Guide on how to go to your "Syllabus" page to edit the content.  This is where you will be attaching your syllabus file ... such as a Word document or PDF file.  But, before you start looking at this Guide, jump down to my two main bullet points below to determine which way you'd like to upload your Word/PDF file to your course...then come back to the page on how to edit your Syllabus.

How do I edit the Syllabus in a course?

Two Options for Uploading your Word/PDF File

• First you could upload the file to your course "Files" area of your course and then attach it to your "Syllabus" page.

• Or, maybe a bit easier, instead of first uploading your Word document or PDF file to your course "Files", you could simply edit your course "Syllabus" page and create the link to the file right on the page...which would then upload it automatically to your course "Files".
  • How do I upload a document in the Rich Content Editor as an instructor?

Hopefully this all makes sense.  If not, we can continue to work with you so that you can get things uploaded the way you want in your course Syllabus.

I know things can be frustrating when you were familiar with a different LMS that could do things (sometimes easier) than another product.  I've been there myself (just with a different part of Canvas).  Please know that folks here in the Community are fellow Canvas users just like yourself, and there are lots of people here ready and willing to help you troubleshoot on a wide variety of topics.
