Icons to open in new tab

I have inserted a table on a page.  I have icons/buttons inside the table.  The icons are hyperlinked to resources/urls.  I want the icons to open in a new window.  So far I have found that I can force words that are hyerlinked to open in a new window (Command K), but not icons.  Any advice?  Thanks so much!
