Import grades for students registered in different labs, but the same lecture.

We have large lecture/lab courses where students register for a lecture and then pick a lab; can be any combination.

Lecture 01- Labs 10L, 20L, 30L, 40L, 50L

Lecture 02- Labs 10L, 20L, 30L, 40L, 50L

Lecture 03- Labs 10L, 20L, 30L, 40L, 50L

The final grade that goes into our SIS is going to be the lecture grade. What’s the best way to import student grades that are registered for different labs (10L, 20L, 50L), but are in one lecture (01)?

All the labs are cross listed so the student data is all in one spot. I’ve looked at creating individual groups, but students need to be added one at a time, I can’t just import a list. I’ve looked at importing all the student grades into the gradebook, but then you go down a list of students that don’t match and say not in this class, again one at a time.

These courses are typically our larger science ones. Anyone solve this another way?

How about merging all of the labs together with the lecture courses too?  Our Anatomy and Physiology courses do this and it works fairly well.  There are 2 lecture sections and 14 lab sections merged together.  Each student ends up being enrolled in two sections (1 lab and 1 lecture) within the course and that works fine.  Since the gradebook lets you filter by section it's easy to display any lab or lecture independently.  Our SIS can pull final grades and this still works too because it's based on the lecture section which is a part of this course.

Thanks Rick! That would be a good solution if I can get faculty on board. Have you had any problems with instructor push back on having them all together?

I haven't had pushback but this is how they wanted it so I didn't need to convince them.  I did however create additional courses for the two lecture sections to use since they have two different teachers and have some differences in content.  They don't use those for grades at all though; just materials and I manually manage the enrollments since they are not officially tied to our SIS.  They may get special treatment in this regard since one of the teachers is married to me.
