Inbox Notifications

When I receive a message through Canvas, I get it to my regular email which I like. However, if I read a message in my email (Gmail), I then have to click on it again in Canvas Inbox to make the notification disappear. Can that be changed in my settings?

@katherine_tatum ‌, yes, you can perform a single action, including Mark as Read, on multiple conversations by following the instructions at the bottom of https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12810-4152719677 (if you're a student, the process is the same).

Hello  @katherine_tatum  Welcome to the Canvas Community.  Thanks for posting your question.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean here.  All of your notification settings that you get in Canvas can be configured by going to your "Account" >> "Notifications" screen in Canvas.  For each column that you see on your "Notifications" screen, that is one contact method that you've chose for Canvas to send notifications to.  You can choose the frequency of things for each contact method as needed.

How do I set my Canvas notification preferences as an instructor?

Can you please provide some additional details on what you are seeing (maybe include a screen shot...being careful not to include any identifying student information)?  I think that would help in troubleshooting this with you.  Thanks!

Basically, I have to check the email in multiple places. I would rather it just get sent to my Gmail and not have a notification in Canvas.

Is there a way to mark all unread messages as read instead of having to click on every single one of them?

My students ( and I) never know when they have a message in their Inbox unless they open it. Is there a way to display a badge on the INBOX icon on the dashboard with the number of new messages to alert us to open it?

Hello @jesscohen ...

Whenever you have a new, unread message in your Canvas Inbox, there should be a number displayed showing how many there are on the "Inbox" global navigation icon. See the first image in this Guide: How do I find my unread messages in the Inbox as an instructor?

I hope this will help.  Sing out if you have any other questions.
