Limit student access to courses while not removing from course

We have a student that cheated and is being academically disciplined.   In order to process the grade, we need the student account to remain enrolled in the Canvas course.    But we do not want the student to access the course while on probation.   Is there a way to limit/remove a students' access to a course while also having them enrolled in the course?

Would it maybe be possible to create a custom student role that is so limited in what students can do in the course that it would meet your needs?

Not in this case.   Howver, one option that is "soooooo" close, is Inactivate User.      It leaves the student in as a student, but the student has no access to the course, doesn't even see the course.     

The main problem with this is that our regular SIS Import process will override this each night.   😞    This is a problem specific to us, but I think in general Inactivate Student will be a soltuion to this question.
