Making a quiz with a file upload

I looked in the guides here and they are pretty useless.  The only thing I can find is how a student would upload a file to answer a question.  Looks straight forward enough but doesn't work at least in preview mode for the instructor.

I have want to make a quiz with an Excel file the students are to finish the then upload.  I was able to attach the file in the quiz question OK.  I then went to preview it.  In preview I was able to download the file, open it with Excel, finish the file, and saved it to my computer.  When I upload the file, nothing happens.  Does Preview not work for this?  All my other quizzes are multiple choice, match or essay type questions and I can preview those without difficult..  When setting up the quiz for a file upload it there some trick?  I looked over all of the settings and nothing seems to be out of place.

Hello jspainho@lorainccc.edu...

In my own testing, if you "Preview" a quiz and then try to use the file upload as if you were a student, it doesn't work.  However, if you use "Student View", then it should work for you.  How do I view a course as a test student using Student View?

I hope this will be of help to you, Jow.  Please let Community members know if you have any other questions about this.  Be well, and stay safe.

Hi again, jspainho@lorainccc.edu...

So, I was helping another Community member with a question about file uploads, and I happened to stumble on this Guide: How do I create a File Upload quiz question?.  I would encourage you to look at the information at the top of this Guide in the blue box.  Specifically, there is this:

You can Preview a quiz before publishing to verify what students see when taking a quiz. However, file upload quiz questions cannot be tested from the Preview screen. To test a file upload quiz question, the quiz must be published and viewed in Student View.

So, this confirms my response that I posted for you earlier today.  I hope this helps!
