Mastery Gradebook Not Working Correctly

Jump to solution

My school has changed to a competency based grading system which the mastery grade book is perfect for. However, I can't get it to work correctly. We have three levels--progressing, meeting, and exceeding with meeting=meets mastery and progressing=below mastery. Right now, My outcome looks like this:

With this system, the color coding will only code students as meets mastery or below mastery. Kids who are exceeding get lumped in with meeting. I'm assuming this is because it doesn't follow the mastery/2=below and mastery*1.5=exceeds. So, I changed the settings to look as follows:

With that setting, it marks kids as exceeds or meets, but leaves out progressing--they get lumped in with meets.

I have tried 0, 1, 2. I have tried to put it on a 75pt scale with 25, 50, 75. I have tried it on a 100pt scale with 33, 66, 100.

Help!!!!

Yes, I know some people are using it, but I’m not sure any of my faculty are using it. I did a quick search and found the following resources related to the Learning Mastery gradebook:

@bargall , greetings! Sorry your question has sat here for a while without a response! Did you ever get this figured out? If not, I did some digging around and found the following guide that I thought might help - https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-14976-4214937608

If you continue to have problems, my recommendation is to contact Canvas Support to see if they can help. To do this click on the Help link and Report a Problem.

Thank you for the link! I read that one to try and solve my problem before posting here, and my school system has not given teachers admin rights. Regardless, there should be a way for the gradebook to calculate exceeds using its current math algorithm or it wouldn’t be listed as a category. I can’t get the math to work right. Is there someone out there using the mastery gradebook who has it working correctly? If yes, what are your point values? We remove points from all rubrics when we do the grading, so I can put in whatever number I need to in order to make it work.
