Mobile view of Calendar Event items?

Jump to solution

I would like to have students see the calendar events for my class on their MOBILE STUDENT app.  I will create them on a computer, but when I look in the MOBILE TEACHER app (iOS, latest version), the Calendar icon is not visible.  In researching, I have seen Canvas documentation on the Guides sites that shows the calendar icon at the bottom of the screen.  Has calendar functionality been removed from mobile apps?  If not, can someone point Calendar out to me on TEACHER?  If so, is there a way to subscribe to a course calendar to have it appear in one's mobile calendar in the device's calendar app?  .  I was sure this existed and talked it up to teachers, but now can't get it to work!  Urgh.  Thanks.

Hi vrichter@exeter.edu,

The Calendar in Canvas is a global calendar and allows you to see events for up to 10 different course calendars and your personal Canvas calendar, so it is not course specific. With some testing I can confirm that I can't find a calendar link in the teacher app but it does live at the center at the bottom of the home page on the student app.

Now as far as getting a Canvas calendar to show up in your Google Calendar or other types of calendars, you can use the .ics export option to make this happen. When you are in the calendar on a web browser, click on the "Calendar Feed" button at the bottom on the right. Copy the url from that popup and paste it into the appropriate location in whatever calendar you are using. I haven't used it but I suspect it should work in most calendar systems. Here are the instructions from the student and teacher perspective:

How do I view the Calendar iCal feed to subscribe to an external calendar as a student?

Hope this helps 🙂
