With the configuration of Canvas that we are using, renaming a file in the files area requires a complete retyping of the file name. I cannot use the arrow keys to go into the name and change one character. On looking around the canvas site, I found the document How do I rename a file? . The picture they show for the files area looks completely different from my view. Is there a setting for our admins to change this to something similar to what is shown in the canvas document? Or, is the Canvas document out of date or ahead of date? But even in that document it is not clear if you have to completely retype a name or if you can edit a name.

For clarity, "Better File Browsing" is currently a feature option, soon (June 6) to be standard (mandatory). You can use this feature already if your university's Canvas account admin has set the feature flag to Allow at the account level. If so, you can turn on the feature for your courses in each course's settings.
If the admin sets the feature flag to "On" (and starting June 6 when Canvas makes it standard system-wide), Better File Browsing will be in place in all courses.
Thanks for the reply. I will see if I can get it turned on for my course and see if the better file browsing fixes my solution.
update: Turned on better browsing and it does resolve this issue. among other issues I had.
Of course the current version of better file browsing has some minor issues as well.
I will wait for the full release to occur to see if they are resolved. The main problem I have with the better browsing
pane is the date created and date modified. There may be an institution setting, but I would prefer the actual date and time
a file or folder was created or modified. Yesterday or Wednesday does not work too well for me.
