Multiple Answer Questions

Jump to solution

I have been searching for a way to do multiple answer questions without the students receiving partial credit.  I have not found a way, so I began researching it and found chats where Canvas indicated they are working on this option.  However, these comments are from 2015.  In speaking with someone from Canvas in a Chat, it was indicated this is still not a feature.  In Nursing (and I am sure other professions), the licensure exam does not give partial credit.  It is vital for us as educators to prepare our students for the types of questions they will see on the licensure exams.  In the chat, it was indicated that the only way to do all or nothing credit on multiple answers is to grade that question individually for each student.  That really defeats the purpose and is not practical with the number of students enrolled in courses.

Is this something Canvas is working on?  Is there an update of the status of this since what I found in questions from 2015?

Thank you

Hi ashley.krebs@usm.edu...

Instructure is, indeed, working on a brand new quizzing engine for Canvas, and it's been written from the ground up.  While they haven't yet announced a date as to the release, I've heard later this year or next year.  I'm trying to find the discussion topic for you to refer to for the Quizzes.next project, but for now I can point you to this video: .  This is from InstructureCon 2016, so some of the features shown here may have changed a bit as they've continued to develop the product.  I hope this helps a bit.

In addition to the https://community.canvaslms.com/community/ideas/quizzesnext?sr=search&searchId=174ad20c-a11c-48a3-87...‌ for more information on the new quizzing engine, there is also a work around for this you can use right now. Check out https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-8251-quizwiz-enhancements-to-speedgrader-and-quizzes?sr=sea...‌. There's a lot to dig through, but one of the options is to have the quiz regrade with the all or none for multiple select questions.

Hope this helps!
