Permission Options for Documents in User Files

Since the documents in "my file" is only visible for the user itself, why are there still options for "published", "unpublished", etc. ?

I truly do not have a definitive answer for your question, but I suspect this is because Canvas permits you to use those files within Canvas courses - either as content to present to students if you are a teacher, or as content to submit for an assignment as a student.

Still, just a guess.
