Powerschool Litigation

Support is saying there is litigation between PowerSchool and canvas. What is going on and when can we get the grade sync with PowerSchool? My district wants a dump canvas because of it.

We are currently in negotiations with PowerSchool to determine the best way to support the integration between Canvas and PowerSchool as quickly as possible. We’re making good progress and we hope to be able to update you and the Community on those conversations soon. There is no litigation between PowerSchool and Instructure. We realize the integration is broken and has to be incredibly frustrating to you and other users. We’re sorry. We want to get this fixed for you soon!

Thank you for your response. I think what is also frustrating is that we specifically asked about the grade passback feature this summer when we made our purchase, and we were told yes.  This was a major consideration for purchase and we are without it.  I hear that other schools are grandfathered in and they can still use this feature.

We have used Powerschool for years; Canvas came second.  This is especially frustrating during a pandemic when teachers are stressed learning a new system and building courses from scratch, and this further adds to it.

I am happy to be able to update this thread.  Powerschool and Instructure have come to an agreement that allows us to support grade passback for all customers.  An email was sent to all affected clients.  If you have remaining questions about this, please contact your account team.

Is there any chance the information on what needs to be done could be shared?

I had reached out to someone on our district's Canvas team and was told something similar to what OP shared: 

"The sync process has not been active due to litigation issues between the two companies.  This maybe in the process of being resolved.  Our Canvas consultant has been looking into the issue."

That was the answer I was given this morning.

Also, for what it is worth; there never was legal action taken by either party.  "Litigation" is a inaccurate.

I'm sorry to hear you are still having trouble with this.  I can confirm that all issues have indeed been resolved and your institution should be able to enable the integration immediately.

Are their particular steps that our district's canvas administrator should be taking to enable the integration? Since we were told that a Canvas consultant was looking into the matter, if I could come back saying "This is what needs to be done," it might help to speed up the process for our entire district.

Hi Jeff,

I just checked this with the manager of our student information systems (SIS) team.  The Canvas admin at your district should reach out to their designated customer success manager (CSM) here at Instructure.  I looked up who your CSM is and will make her aware of this thread.
