Question about getting grades from Quizzes 2 assignments

Good afternoon. I have made assignments in Canvas using Quizzes 2 as an external tool. I know that students have completed the assignments and when I go to "moderate" I can see their scores, but their scores do not automatically transfer to the course grade book. Is there something special I need to do to have the scores transfer from Quizzes 2 to the grade book?

Hello,  @walkerse  , and welcome to the Community.  You will need to manually add their grades from that LTI into SpeedGrader.

Thanks for the reply Jennifer. Can you tell me how I would go about doing that? I don't have a lot of experience with Canvas.

The easiest way to tell you how to do this is to click on the Grades link in your Course Navigation Menu; this will take you to your gradebook.  Find the assignment; click on the space of the first student under the assignment and type in the grade from the other LTI.  Do this all the way down until the grades are entered.

If when you look at their grades, check to see if you are in SpeedGrader.  If so, you should be able to put the grades in to the right.

Thank you for your detailed reply. Is there not an easier way to transfer the grades over? Honestly that seems like a really big pain to do, especially since there seems to be no way to export the grades from the Quizzes 2 assignments. The whole reason I created those assignments in Quizzes 2 (which as far as I can tell is the same as New Quizzes) was to make the grading much easier on me. I don't understand why the grades shouldn't be able to automatically transfer over like they can from other external tools.

They don't transfer over from all of the other external tools; this is why I only used the Classic Quizzes or New Quizzes.  If I used a quiz from outside of Canvas, I imported it as a QTI file; this file was then made into a Canvas quiz.

But Jennifer, Quizzes 2 seems to be the same thing as New Quizzes (they look the same, same functionality, etc.). That means it should be able to transfer the grades over directly. Also, my students are reporting that after they complete their assignments, even though they hit submit it is not showing a check mark next to the assignment name indicating completion.

Sean, I understand.  However, think of this as languages -- Canvas speaks Greek and Quizzes 2 speak Hungarian.  They are not likely to understand each other without an interpreter; you are their interpreter.  The students need you to interpret too; to mark their assignments as complete.  IF the 2 look alike, build your quizzes in New Quizzes, and an interpreter is not needed.  Can you download your Quizzes 2 quizzes as a QTI file so you don't lose what you've already built?

 @walkerse ‌, the source of the disconnect here might be the references to "Quizzes 2." I have never heard of that, and both Jennifer and I assumed that that's a reference to an external tool. Did your school rebrand New Quizzes as "Quizzes 2"?

Thanks to both of you for responding to my question. I do believe that Quizzes 2 might be a rebrand of New Quizzes. Below you can see what it looks like when I open up the assignment which I created using "Quizzes 2" as the external tool (it looks just like New Quizzes to me...).

However, based on Jennifer's suggestion I tried to test out making a New Quizzes assignment by going to Quizzes, hitting +Quizzes, and choosing New Quizzes as an option. When I viewed as a student and completed the test assignment, it also did not automatically put the grade in my gradebook and did not have a checkmark next to it saying I had completed the assignment. I wonder if this might be an issue on the Canvas side?

Thanks so much for providing the screenshot,  @walkerse ‌! Yes, that is definitely the New Quizzes interface—and you are correct that grades should automatically populate the gradebook column for an assessment in New Quizzes consisting entirely of auto-graded questions. Quizzes that include questions requiring manual grading will still populate the Gradebook, but will indicate to the instructor that there are items that still need grading.

So yes, I apologize for the confusion, but without being able to look at the overall environment, we won't be able to determine why the assessment is showing scores in the Moderate section but those scores aren't displaying in the Canvas Gradebook. Please ask a support agent to have a look (How do I get help with Canvas as an instructor?‌)

Saw this thread as was a little confused as Quizzes 2/New Quizzes is most definitely linked to the Gradebook (and Moderate) eg

So why would a score not be appearing in the Gradebook?

Even if you set the quiz out of 0 you still get a grade:

Would be interested to know what is happening...?

Very strange indeed. When I test it out I can see those first two screens but no actual grade appears in the grade book.
