Retrieving a deleted page

Jump to solution

Is it possible to retrieve a deleted page from a module? If so, please advise.

Thanks!

Hi Elena

There is an undelete option but it's not well documented, in fact I think it's supposed to be a secret! Go to the homepage of your course and then add /undelete to the end of the URL in the address bar.

For example, if your course URL is https://canvas.myschool.edu/courses/12345 change it to https://canvas.myschool.edu/courses/12345/undelete

This will display a list of any items that have been deleted from the course recently. There should be a restore button next to each of them so you can choose which ones you want to retrieve.

Hi, egeiserhogan1@knights.ucf.edu, and welcome to Canvas and the Canvas Community! s.j.watts@bham.ac.uk is spot on with his "undelete" suggestion; it's not exactly a secret, but as he says, it's not documented either. You'll find an informal writeup of it here. If the undelete option doesn't work--it doesn't always--you should submit a ticket to Canvas Support by clicking on the Help button in the left (global) navigation and then on the Report a Problem option.

One other thing to consider is that just because a page has been deleted from a module doesn't mean it's been deleted from the course, because modules are essentially content wrappers. If you click on the Pages link in the left (course) navigation menu, you might that the page missing from the module is still in Pages. If that's the case, you can go back to modules and re-add the page by following the instructions in How do I add items to a module?

The "undelete" feature really helps the instructional designers to further solidify their status as ed tech wizards.  It's like, when witchcraft is used for good purposes.

...and egeiserhogan1@knights.ucf.edu, I found a more formal writeup of how "undelete" works here: Undeleting things in Canvas   If you can't access that resource, please feel free to join the Instructional Designers group to see it.

Great question Elena and great answer (Steve et al.).

I found this while looking for something else, but this "witchcraft" (nice term for it Sean) is indeed going to be very useful.

It also led me, through Stefanie's response, to the Instructional Designers group which has TONS of things which will be useful to me now and in the future.

Thank you everyone!
