Speedgrader

Why when I am using Speedgrader in "grades" an error pops up and says to "Select Student Group"?

It could be because you have a very large course and it wants you to grade by group to lessen the number of entries that need to be loaded into speedgrader at once.  The is a setting to enable this so you might be able to turn it off.  I've never used the feature myself but here is a short write up about it which may help shed some light on what is going on https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-enable-SpeedGrader-to-launch-filtered-b...
