How do I unlock a discussion that I posted?

Hi  @mf1238  Welcome to the Canvas Community and apologies for the somewhat late reply.  If by "locked" you mean closed for comments, there is information on how to re-open that discussion here: How do I close a discussion for comments in a course?  As the link at the beginning of that lesson explains, this would have occurred because you set an UNTIL date in the settings for a graded discussion.

On the other hand, if students are stating that it is locked for some reason, double-check that it's not included in a module that has some setting causing it to be locked.  That can often be due to a restriction date or simply not publishing the module itself, which would cause the items within the module (even if they have been published) not being accessible.

I've tried the solutions above, but they don't apply in my situation. I am an ID trying to view the discussions the faculty member has apparently locked.

• I can see the modules, but not the discussions.
• The message on the discussion page is "This topic is locked until (XXX date)."
• The discussions are published (green).
• I am able to access and change the dates for the assignments--but I can't even view the discussions.

I should have admin-level access to everything in the course. I thought of changing the due date on the discussion just to get it open (and then change it back after viewing), but I can't access this option as I normally can. I've tried to go through the options on the grading page, the module, the activity itself, the course summary, even the pages--everywhere relevant.

How does someone "lock" a discussion? Is that person the only one who can unlock it? Can't someone else with admin access unlock it--and how?
