Where can I find my saved recorded video message?

Hello,

I recorded a 2.5 minute video, in an announcement in Canvas. I titled and saved it and it displayed in the announcement. But, when I clicked on edit, to edit some of the typed content, the video disappeared. And, I can't find it anywhere - this happened twice. Do you think it's a glitch? Or, should I record and save the clip using my photo booth and then upload the video? Or, is the video saved in an obscure place? Please help!

PS: This is for the HS 285 #20430 class.

HI  @kbranchstewart  Welcome to the Canvas Community. 

How annoying. I'm guessing that you have inadvertently deleted it before saving the announcement. Or forgot to save the announcement thus deleting it. As it is an announcement you will not have the handy restore option.

Otherwise your own suggestion of using your photo booth is cool. However this will impact on your course storage space. A link to your video would be best.

Upload Media File Question 

"The media files you record or upload are saved and stored in a secure media server. They are currently not accessible from anywhere except the original location in Canvas where you created and saved it from. Generally they are stored as MP4/MP3 for Video/Audio respectively."  @zac ‌

We recommend using an outside video recorder. My fave is screencast-o-matic because it is super cheap and easy to use. The free version is decent too - record up to 15 minutes without editing. Also, they have their own hosting site, so you can embed the videos in the rich content editor as long as they are under 15 minutes (using the free version). The only issue we have run into is that the embedded videos do not work on some browsers. So, I remind all faculty to be sure to have multiple formats, for instance the link to the video that is in SOM AND the embedded video. 

Oh, and one more thing... you can save it while you are watching it! I just saw another post that describes being able to "Save the video as" with a right click while you are watching it. Found here: Download media recordings? 

Then it downloads to your computer as an MP4.
