Will the Canvas App work in Low Bandwidth areas of the world?

Our organization is worldwide, and Canvas has become a huge blessing in teaching and reaching our students.  

One of the concerns we are facing is finding ways to reach students who are in 3rd world countries.  Many, if not all, of our students, own a 3G smartphone. (Though, we have similar issues in much of the Rural Midwest, USA)

For most of the COVID Crisis, we have been using WhatsApp, Lime, or other Social Media platforms to teach remotely.  Yet, the same content and curriculum is already available in their language in Canvas. 

Has anyone been successful in using the App with low internet bandwidth, or do you have any suggestions or pointers of ways we can utilize the tools of canvas in these remote regions?

The Canvas Mobile apps do cache content as you navigate through the app so this helps with low bandwidth situations. This isn't specifically an offline mode but does help speed up the app. Of course, with Canvas being an online service, some items like discussions and announcements change too frequently to reliably cache. Also because of the caching features in the Canvas Mobile apps, the app will be better than the mobile web version in low bandwidth situations.
