group numbers. string or number?

Why is the group number being change from string to number and now back to string? I have a script that reads the submitted files names and creates TA grading groups. For the past two years, I've had to edit my code to accommodate the number group number and now back to string. Please be consistent.

Which API endpoint is giving you the error? I haven't noticed any recent changes to the Groups API, but now I'm concerned, since we use it, too...
