i just finished an assignment and i went to go send it in and it made me re-submit and it lost my homework

When you re-submit an assignment to your instructor, you (as the student) only will see the most recent submission. However, from an instructor's perspective, he/she has access to all submissions for all students, and each is time/date stamped. So, assuming that you've submitted and then re-submitted the assignment correctly, your instructor should have access to your initial submission as well as the re-submission.
