Our commitment to preserving the learning experience remains unwavering. When we launched our latest NPS survey, our north star was clear: do not disrupt learning. We set broad-stroke parameters with care but received feedback that these parameters felt too restrictive.
Hearing You - and Taking Thoughtful Action
You told us you were comfortable with us expanding the parameters. One group in particular stood out: instructors who also hold a student role. Many institutions use Canvas not just for traditional teaching, but for professional development, adjunct instruction, peer-learning and more. Our original survey excluded these instructors, inadvertently limiting the perspectives and experiences gathered.
What’s Changing First: An Expanded Survey Scope
So we dug deeper. We reexamined the rules. We asked: “Who aren’t we hearing from - and why?” Our first evolution in response: we are expanding the survey to include Higher Education/Continued Education and Business and Government instructors with student roles.
- Previously: if you were an instructor and also a student, you were excluded from receiving the survey.
- Now: those instructors will receive the survey, so their voices, experiences, and needs can inform future improvements.
We believe this change ensures we're representing more of your real-world teaching and learning contexts.
“What about K-12?”
You may be asking: “What about K-12 instructors?”
We don’t want to miss the valuable feedback from K-12 educators. That said, we’re still validating whether the same parameters make sense in K-12 settings - structural differences, role definitions, institutional demands can vary. We’re being thoughtful, precise, and data-driven about expanding further.
We are continuing our efforts to determine if and when to broaden the survey to K-12 instructors, ensuring any expansion truly reflects their needs without creating unintended gaps. And yes: we’ll keep you posted as developments unfold.
What’s Next?
- Rolling out the expanded survey to Higher Education/Continued Education and Business and Government instructors with dual roles - starting now
- Gathering responses and moving swiftly to digest and act on the insights you provide
- Planning a K-12 validation process, in partnership with K-12 educators, to determine if/when to broaden the scope there
- Continuing to ask: are we hearing all the voices we need to hear?
We deeply appreciate your candid input - and your patience as we grow stronger, more inclusive methods of listening and responding. This is built with you.
Thank you for trusting us, for speaking up, and for shaping what’s next.
