What is the Elevate K-12 Analytics Data Explorer?

The Data Explorer allows you to dissect information in various ways to better understand the underlying components of data. The Data Explorer initially displays aggregated data for a specified metric. You can then interact with the data, filtering and disaggregating it so that you can compare, contrast, and apply investigative techniques to make inferences, observe statistical trends, and identify relationships between data.

Note: Using the Data Explorer is a user role permission. If your Navigation Menu does not include the Data Explorer link, this feature is restricted for you and other users with your user role. For more information about accessing the Data explorer, you can contact your institution's Elevate K-12 Analytics Administrator for help.

Data Explorer

The Data Explorer displays data visually in charts, and each filter or action produces a new chart that displays below the previous exploration chart. The Data Explorer provides common action recommendations, and you can access all available exploration actions in the sidebar. You can view your data to an unlimited number of levels.

Starting with institution-level aggregated data, you can systematically dissect a chart and apply successive explore actions to drill down, categorize, sub-categorize, and/or filter specific components of a chart. Your exploration results display visually in charts, and your exploration steps are always preserved on-screen. Each action you take results in a new chart drawn below the previous one. Common actions are listed at the bottom of your exploration, and you can access all available actions in the Data Explorer sidebar. These steps can proceed indefinitely until the you arrive at data attributed to individual classrooms, teachers, or students.

How does the Data Explorer work?

Elevate K-12 Analytics leverages OLAP to provide results for millions of rows of data in real-time. OLAP associates each data item with the various categories in which the item can be grouped. Then, using the Data Explorer actions, you can manipulate, examine, and dissect your data items in various ways across their available categories.

This allows you to more easily explore and observe statistical trends, assess relationships between data, discover underlying components, and make data-driven inferences and action plans. For example, OLAP groups all student_daily_attendance data items by a variety of categories, including day, week, month, school, grade level, course, etc. In the Data Explorer you can investigate student attendance trends within your institution to identify factors that may impact student attendance.
