You can perform various actions for individual exploration levels or for the exploration as a whole using the Data Explorer sidebar. From the sidebar you can view and manage an exploration.

On the Exploration page, click the Sidebar Menu icon.

The Actions menu includes the following options:

Categorize [1]: View lower-level components of the displayed data. When a categorization has already been applied to the exploration, this action displays “Sub-Categorize” instead. After a sub-categorization has been applied, this action is then disabled from further use because charts can only be categorized to two levels.

Disaggregate [2]: View an explanation for how to disaggregate data in the selected chart or exploration. Unlike categorization, disaggregation can be repeated an unlimited number of times.

Filter by Category [3]: Include or exclude specific data categories. This action helps focus user analysis on data of interest. Once a category is selected, values within the category are displayed.

Advanced Filter [4]: Apply complex filters by value rather than category item.

Top n [5]: Restrict a chart to show only a specified number of top or bottom values of data. You must provide the desired n-count.

Create Chart [6]: Automatically add the chart to your Visuals Library My Items folder.

Explain [7]: View information about the selected exploration level.

Select the category for the filter. Click the select category link [1]. Then select a category by clicking the select metric link [2] and select a metric.

Apply a filter to your category and metric. Click the Filter by drop-down menu [3], then enter a number in the Number field [4].

To extend the filter, click the add one more condition link [5].

To apply your advanced filter, click the OK button [6].

Note: When using the Advanced Filter, you are connecting measures from two fact tables. The selected category is the common dimension shared by those tables that represents the main subject of both measures.

The Modify menu includes the following options:

Edit [1]: Change the configuration of the selected level.

Sort by [2]: Adjust the sort order of displayed values in a chart. Expand the menu to view the available sort options. The initial sort order is Default, which uses an internal determination to provide the most suitable sort order for chart items. Changing the sort order to Value will sort the items in descending order by their value, and changing to Category will sort the items alphabetically by their name.

Shift level up [3]:  Move the chart location in the exploration.

Chart labels [4]: Modify the chart labels. Expand the menu to view the available shift options. By default, labels are turned on to display on the chart.

Chart type [5]:  Customize the type of chart. The default chart type is Column. However, several other choices may provide a better display of data as needed.

Data view [6]:  Change the view of the selected level from a chart to a grid view. The chart data displays in tabular form. In some cases, an additional Show additional columns option displays, which allows you to view additional columns in the list.

The Exploration menu includes the following options:

Save [1]: Save all exploration steps and charts so it can be resumed at a later time. Enter a name for the current exploration. Saved explorations display your explorations.

Clear [2]: Reset the current exploration to the initial sate. To undo the action, click the toolbar Back button.

Collapse all [3]: Collapse or expand all explorations at once.

Send to [4]: View options to save and share the exploration. You can print, email, save, export, or generate a shareable a link to the exploration.

In the Legend menu you can view the color coding in the selected chart.
