On one Page in Canvas I created three videos of varying lengths. The longest one was about 30 minutes. When I click on the videos they say "Media is currently being converted, please try again in a little bit." It's been like this for a few hours. Does it take that long? Should I expect to have just lost those videos? Can anyone help?
A student submitted a video using his computer, and when I try to watch it, Canvas gives me this message: "Media is currently being converted, please try again in a little bit." I tried reopening the video many times for the past three days. What do I do in this case?
My professor said I would not get penalized for lateness and to please contact you for advice.
Thank you.

I know posts regarding this issue already exist. But the solutions were always to report a problem and wait for Canvas team to solve the individual problem. That means the problem has persisted for years (the earliest post I saw was in 2015).
I reported the problem and the reply I got through email is "Canvas Support has seen such a large increase in volume that we are no longer able to provide support for all Free For Teacher help requests" and "For assistance with any other issue, please visit the Canvas Community".
I think it is irresponsible for Canvas to discard Free For Teacher instructors in this way. If you notify me in advance, I could choose not to use Canvas. But now I had student submissions that I cannot mark, and you tell me service is no longer available, it is unfair for my students and it certainly damages the reputation of Canvas.

Deploys currently take place weekly to align with temporarily deploy adjustments as announced in COVID-19 Updates to Canvas Releases and Deploys
Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features, but they do not affect customer workflows. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document. Intended changes in workflow are noted in the Canvas Release Notes published monthly.
Deploy notes may include notable fixed bugs, bugs included in the Canvas Known Issues list, and additional updates that do not affect user functionality.

Interface Updates
Responsive Layout Adjustments
Multiple locations within Canvas have received responsive design adjustments for mobile browser widths. The majority of adjustments ensure accessibility for all users and correct unintentional behaviors such as overlapping text and icons. Other adjustments added responsive functionality to Canvas admin and user settings.
These adjustments can be managed individually as feature options until the 18 July 2020 release and are categorized in three areas:
Each link above references commit titles and Github links included within each feature option.
Canvas Whitelisting
Email IP Addresses
Two IP addresses have been added to the static Canvas IP addresses list as linked in Canvas Whitelisting.
LDAP Servers
One Virginia LDAP server has been removed from the Canvas LDAP addresses list as linked in Canvas Whitelisting.
Fixed Bugs |
Conferences
Students and Shared Notes Link
Students can view a link to shared notes included in a conference recording.
Explanation: When a recorded conference included shared notes, the Notes link did not appear for students. This behavior did not affect instructors. Canvas code has been updated to display the Notes link to students.
Rich Content Editor
Audio Media Comments
Audio media comments save correctly in Canvas.
Explanation: When an audio-only media comment was recorded using the Rich Content Editor, the comment linked to a zero-second video. In the New Rich Content Editor, a link named Link was embedded but did not contain any data about the media comment. Canvas code has been updated to save comments correctly, especially in Firefox and Chrome.
New Rich Content Editor
Embedded Media Uploads
Users who try to leave a page are notified if embedded media has not been completely uploaded.
Explanation: When a media file was embedded in the New Rich Content Editor, the media upload was not always able to be completed, though the user was not aware the upload had not been completed. Canvas code has been updated to notify the user if the user tries to leave the page while media is uploading. If the upload fails, the page generates an error message.

After recording Audio or Media feedback, Canvas displays a dialog stating ‘Media is currently being converted, please try again in a little bit.” when the file upload has failed. This dialog is also presented for a short time when the upload is successful, so it’s not clear if the comment will be published if this screen is shown.
Please clearly show when an Audio or Media comment has not been uploaded to be clear about the status of a comment made.

The Problem: Students can record a media video in Canvas and before that video has fully uploaded into Canvas, they are allowed to submit the assignment. However, submitting the assignment before the media file is fully uploaded causes an error with the recorded media. The subsequent video can never be viewed and there is no physical media file to recover.
The Example: Recently, a team of students recorded a video through Canvas. They submitted the assignment before the media was fully uploaded to canvas. Using speed grader, faculty see the submission as a media recording; however, an error occurs. "Media is currently being converted, please try again in a little bit." The video never converts. According to Canvas support, "You called Canvas Support today because Students video submission appears to have been submitted before upload was complete. This caused an error with the recorded media. It submitted a 0 byte file that never made it to our servers. Our L2 Team attempted to recover this video but was unable to." Now, the students need to re-record the media and re-submit the video. This delays future class activities as these videos are evaluated by other students per the design of the curriculum.
The Simple Solution: Do not allow a student to submit a media file that has not fully been uploaded. Additional Info: There is a text box popup that alerts students they are submitting a media file that hasn't fully uploaded. However, Canvas still allows the submission and future error to occur. (Confetti falls with the submission like always too.) Change the text box of warning to a text box of stoppage. Simply, prevent a student from submitting the assignment before the media has fully uploaded.

Hi all,
I uploaded a 5MB MP4 to a module in my course. When I click on the corresponding link, I'm told "Media has been queued for conversion, please try again in a little bit." This has been queued for 10+ minutes now.
I've searched, but I can't find any information on how long I should expect a conversion to take, and what my MP4 is being converted into. Anyone care to help me out?
Thanks!
Glenn
A student responded to an assignment with a video. Shortly after she submitted it on Friday, I viewed it via Speed Grader. Last night, I sought to review it and received the following message:
Media is currently being converted, please try again in a little bit.
I have tried several times and the video has not been available to me.
Is there any way to retrieve this video? I am concerned that she has lost her work and others may as well.
