Fell into computers with a Radio Shack Model I and never stopped. (Well I actually studied Fortran in high school, punch cards!) Currently enjoy helping people figure out how to do things in their online courses; WebCT, Blackboard, Moodle and now Canvas.

Yes, the setting to "seeing only own section" takes care of Conversations (inbox), @arovner .

@RyanNorton , thank you, it is working better. I now rarely have to lookup their SIS ID, usually email address works fine. It's all working quite well, very useful!!
