Method 4
I had someone email me today asking if my Google Sheet for this still worked. I didn't know so I tested it and it did. But then he asked if there was a way to sort the Canvas Course Search by unpublished courses.
There is not, but I tried something on a whim and it worked. It turns out that if you are a Canvas admin, then you don't need Excel Lookup function, Power View, or Google Sheets to find a list of the unpublished courses.
Go to your Admin > Courses page as detailed in How do I use the Courses page in an account?
Add a query parameter of published=false to the URL and hit enter. This needs to come after a ? and if there are already other values after the ?, then you will need an & in front of it.
Examples for account 12345 are <instance>/accounts/12345?published=false or <instance>/accounts/12345?enrollment_term_id=876&published=false
The published=false is passed on to the List active courses in an account API endpoint, where it describes that published=true shows only published courses, published=false excludes published courses, and if omitted (the default), then it is not filtered.
The beauty of this method is that you can then filter by term, search for instructors or courses, click at the top of most columns (except for Published) to sort, paginate through the list, and do it all from within Canvas with no special tools needed.
You cannot publish the courses from that menu, but you can find them.

Support closed out our ticket on this and it looks like the help article has been updated to no longer show as open. No further reports on this, so glad this was worked on pretty quickly!

As promised, I'm back with an update. I hope to catch you before you are off on break, so that you can enjoy your time more fully.
We are allowing an extension to the timeline for Classic Quiz usage through the end of June 2024. However that isn't the only adjustment we've made. You can read the full details here.
Thank you for your candid openness. I hope you will see that we are taking this feedback into account as we've made changes to the transition timeline and supporting documents.
Also, many made note of migration and partial points on matching questions being a big barrier. Both of these are coming to Beta on December 22nd. You can read about migration here (which includes bulk migration and question banks) and partial points for matching here.
Context is always critical to us as well, so as the context has changed once these timeline adjustments have been made, we are closing this thread for comment. I do still want to hear from you and how what we're doing impacts your job. Please add any new comments to the new discussion.
