This feature has so much potential, thanks for adding it to the Beta! One feature that would be appreciated for students to be automatically subscribed to the root account calendar, rather than students having to opt in. It is hard to have confidence that new students will be able to know when the last day of add/drop is, if they haven't figured out how to opt in to the school calendar.

I have done a number of test on this and not been able to determine what causes Canvas to record that a student has left the page. From my findings, Canvas will often NOT record instances of students leaving the page. If they go to another tab, open another window or word doc, minimize the quiz, or copy and paste text from other documents. Some of these instances got flagged as "leaving the quiz" but not all of them, and not consistently. For the most part, the only consistent way to get the quiz log to show that I had left the quiz, was to click on the Home, or dashboard button, then navigate back and "Resume" the quiz attempt. All of the Canvas documentation emphasizes that the Quiz Activity Log is not meant to be used to detect cheating. There are no settings in Canvas to tell the system that a student opening a word document, is cheating, or is accessing a professor approved resource for a question. Canvas has a very open philosophy of teaching, and as such, the quiz allows for teachers to have open book quizzes, internet scavenger hunt quizzes, as well as structured and regulated quizzes. In the attached picture, I often had results come up where students would appear to have left the quiz, continued to answer questions, and then resumed. Yet, when doing that attempt, I did not leave the quiz, rather I attempted to insert a document into the Essay question using the RCE. there were also other instances where Canvas would record me Leaving the quiz, and resuming the quiz in the same second. I can only assume that the above two instances were glitches, and I was unable to determine what had caused those or how to replicate them. Note: all of my experiments were done using basic Canvas, with no feature upgrades, and Classic Quizzes.

I agree, having these totals not match and not having any sort of pop-up is really confusing. A pop-up like we see in Rubrics would be a great solution, if the totals can't auto populate.

Yes, That is exactly it! The biggest frustration that we are having is when assignments roll into the next calendar year (or don't). The course is used to facilitate the students internship requirement for their specific program. Students must submit monthly reports on their hours and the observations they are making and the feedback that they are getting from facilitators. For the ease of the students remembering when to submit the reports, and so that the instructor can predict when reports are coming in, they are always due on the first of the month. Currently, the instructor has been manually adding each monthly due date for each student so that if they join Feb 2, 2022 their February report is due Feb 1, 2023. We have been able to help reduce the admin workload on the instructor by assigning dates using Sections, but with rolling enrollment, there were still multiple assignments that had to be manually adjusted for each student. We had tried removing the due dates altogether, then there would be no incorrect dates, but then student often forgot to submit their reports completely and they were not flagged as late for the instructor to see when marking the reports. It would be ideal to use the course pacing feature that rolls assignments into the next calendar year, and adjusts dates based on the student start date, but also have it account for the differences in month lengths.

I have a Professor at my institution that has a course with rolling enrollment. Students in this course must submit reports on the last day of each month, and the professor has been frustrated with manually assigning all the due dates for each student so that they line up with the last day of each month. If a student enrolls in March, then the Report due in February is already past, and the professor has to manually adjust all of the monthly reports to loop into the next year. Course pacing would be a great solution to this problem, but the professor wants the reports due on specific days, Is there any plans for course pacing to include set options such as the first, 15th, or last day of each month? This would be a really helpful feature.

Students in my class have completed a quiz in which I have both objective and essay style questions. Even with the Grade Posting Policy set to manual, students can see a partial score based off of the objective answers. Is there any way to prevent students from seeing their scoring information until I have posted the final score?
