Due to concerns regarding student privacy, we are unable to advance this request in our Ideas process.
There are options available to for campuses to allow students to message other students directly in the Inbox. If you are unable to do so, it may be a great conversation to have with your Canvas Support team on campus.
Notifications (or "forwards" to a personal email) are possible on a user-by-user basis. How do I manage my Canvas notification settings as a student?
