Bio:
My career began in 1978 as a staff nurse on Birthplace at Baptist Easley Hospital. Working L&D, NBN, Postpartum and Level II nursery. I gained my permanent Professional Childbirth Educator certification when the certifiers only taught RN’s and Physical Therapists. I have worked Med/Surg, Peds, OB, and managed Birthplace at BEH and High Risk (Women’s Speciality) at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC. I presented a grant to the Duke Endowment for $500,000 to open a OB clinic with a Family Friendly focus. Every patient also received a dental visit and cleaning during their pregnancy. This allowed patients to enter the healthcare program in two weeks rather than six weeks. We were able to offer Childbirth Education to all patients and reduced our OB visits to the ED by 20%. I am now teaching at ECPI University.
