Is it possible to just export a module of a Canvas course?
Katie, it's possible to export a single module of a Canvas course if you're exporting it to Canvas Commons. If your school has Commons enabled, you can follow the instructions in How do I share a resource to Commons? and How do I share a document, image, video, or audio file to Commons?. The guides don't specify modules, but it is an available export option.
Otherwise, there is no "selective export" option for a Canvas course. Having said that, it's a relatively simple matter to export the entire course to an export package (see How do I export a Canvas course? ) and then import only the module from that package into wherever you want it used (How do I import a Canvas course export package? , making sure to enable the Select specific content radio button before proceeding with the import).
To build on Stefanie's comment - you can build an export package that just includes one module, but it involves taking a second step. First is to create a temporary course, then import just the one module (and it's contents). Then, when you do an export, that export package contains only that one module. This is great for those groups that may be wary of the Commons, but still want to be able to pass pieces of a course around to multiple instructors. And, just like with any partial import/export, you really need to verify the links after doing so, especially any links referencing other parts of the course.
Hello, the "How do I share a resource to Commons?" link is "unauthorized." Any updates please?
I did find an alternate page that helped me.
Amanda Thank You for letting us know about those links! They should now be working.
